Draining the cellar – 1 year later
I have been working on drying out my basement for a good 2 years. In addition to repairs to the piping system, ventilation designs, and dryers, drainage with masonry injection and a brand new pump well were also used. It is now time for a review and a summary of the individual measures.

Convert gas grill Napoleon PHANTOM to external power supply
My Napoleon P500 gas grill will be the centerpiece of my new backyard kitchen. The outdoor kitchen is still under construction, but already today I have to give some thought to the installation of the gas grill. In addition to the work surface of the Napoleon Prestige 500 – which should be at the same level as the rest of the worktop – the ventilation of the gas grill and the supply of gas and electricity must also be considered and planned.

Renovate basement ceiling – replace steel beams
Our art nouveau villa was built in 1900 and has a full basement. However, under the basement is another cellar. This was used in the past as a vegetable cellar and air raid shelter. The climate is therefore cool and humid. Over the years, leaking pipes on the exterior have caused major water damage in

Build carport yourself – intercept slope with gabions
Our double carport was finally built. The roof is tight, and the paint was also applied several times. With the installation of the electrical system, LED lighting, motion detectors and surveillance camera, the interior was also as good as finished.

Illuminate carport with LED strip light – install camera and motion detector
The carport was finally finished. The roof was tight and the protective coating was also applied several times. Now I could devote myself to the electrics. In addition to lighting which would have to be switched either by motion detector, should also accommodate at least 2 sockets in the carport. In order to be able to connect speakers in the future, I of course needed the appropriate cables for this as well.

Build your own carport – Easycarport build into the slope
The carport could finally be built! In the past weeks, the subsoil was prepared and the H-post anchors were embedded in the KG pipes. The slope was secured with a wall of formwork stones and a thick layer of crushed stone formed the base for the parking spaces under the carport.

Build your own carport – correctly calculate and adjust post lengths
The kit for the carport was delivered and the weather was getting better every day. The construction of the carport was now within reach. In order for the construction to run smoothly, the work had to be well planned. In addition to catering for the construction team, all the necessary tools should also be available.

Slope stabilization – stack 2 gabions
Over a period of a few weeks, I built the first row of gabions over a length of around 30 meters. A relatively straight section was followed by a slight bend. By placing the gabions inside each other, I was able to form a corner on the south-east side. Towards the end, the difference in height to the existing gabion wall was evened out using a gabion terrace.

Bad surprise – cable thieves strike
The actual construction in the house began around October 2008. The plans were in place and the first walls had been removed or torn out. Little by little we had brought tools and materials into the house and stored them there. Our house was secured by a solid wooden entrance door but was now completely accessible inside. And so it happened, as it unfortunately has to happen far too often in our area. We experienced our first break-in. What happened? One Monday afternoon I drove back to the construction site straight after work, parked at the house and went to the door. Somehow I noticed that the lock on the…
