Build your own concrete foundation for garden kitchen and garden shed
For over 6 months I have been planning the construction of the new garden kitchen and the Small animal house. But without concrete foundation I can not build a house in the garden. Now came kort-term the promise, that theeton foundation finallyh can be built on the two plateaus in the garden. I have already prepared the ground so that the outdoor kitchen and the outdoor aviary can be built safely and stably on the slope in our garden. In this post, I’ll tell you exactly what I’ve already done and what else I had to consider when building the solid foundation.

Expand and extend gabion wall on slope | slope stabilization | raised bed
The small slope below the parking lot was secured last year with a gabion wall. Between the gabion wall and the parking lot I created a raised bed and planted the first plants. The raised bed has automatic watering and is additionally secured with a honeycomb fleece

Slope stabilization – stack 2 gabions
Over a period of a few weeks, I built the first row of gabions over a length of around 30 meters. A relatively straight section was followed by a slight bend. By placing the gabions inside each other, I was able to form a corner on the south-east side. Towards the end, the difference in height to the existing gabion wall was evened out using a gabion terrace.

Securing slopes with gabions – installing stones correctly
I had now erected the first row of gabions on my earth slope over a length of a good 30 meters. I drew a nice curve for the next 20 meters and then built a real corner with a height offset for the remaining meters. Before I could install the second row of stone baskets, the bottom row first had to be filled with stones.

Securing slopes with gabions – building corners and curves
The stone baskets for the gabion wall were erected over a length of a good 20 meters within a few weeks. Starting from the driveway in a south-easterly direction, I was able to build a slight curve. The spirals provide a certain amount of play – but this does not allow for tight curves. So now I had to form proper corners with

Secure raised bed on a slope with gabions and honeycomb fleece
The raised bed between my two gabion walls is to be redesigned. In future, the plants will be watered automatically. I install an automatic irrigation system for this purpose. This time the whole thing is to be realized with a drip hose.
