  • Winterizing Your Pool: Drain the Water, Store the Equipment, and Cover the Pool

A rectangular swimming pool that has been prepared for the Pool Winterfest: It is covered with a gray tarp secured to a stone terrace with blue water hoses. www.commaik.de

To winterize my pool and protect the equipment from frost, I cleaned the pool, backwashed the filter, and lowered the water level. I also moved the BAYROL dosing system and other components to the basement for the winter. I’ll describe my process, including how I stored the sensors in a humid environment and how I protected the pipes. New this time was the winter cover with aluminum struts and water bags: it was meant to solve the problems I’d had with my previous tarp and pool cushions.
