Glide Gear OH100 overhead camera platform in test
The Glide Gear OH100 Overhead Camera Platform is an indispensable camera mount for my overhead shots.
For my video productions I film regularly in my workshop. I want to present the components and tools I use in my films in a clearly visible way. Of course, the work processes should also be shown optimally for the viewer.
The Glide Gear OH100 offers the perfect solution for this. Thanks to its stable construction and flexible adjustment options, it allows me to position the camera exactly where it is needed. This allows me to ensure that every step of the process is clearly visible.
In this article, I present the overhead platform in more detail.
Why a tripod is not enough
In my previous way of working, I had always mounted my camera on a tripod and positioned it directly in front of my workbench. This method allowed me to closely monitor what I was filming and adjust settings on the camera if necessary.
Unfortunately, this arrangement proved to be impractical, as both the camera and the tripod were often in the way.
The limited freedom of movement was a constant problem, and it was not uncommon for me to accidentally bump into the tripod, resulting in unwanted wobbles in the video.
To overcome this challenge, I invested in another tripod, this time one with a horizontal boom. This allowed me to set up the tripod a little further away from my position, which allowed the camera to film from a better perspective.
Nevertheless, this solution was not ideal either. Due to the weight of the camera on the boom, I had to add weight to the tripod, which affected the stability.
In addition, I still couldn’t film my workbench directly from above. The shooting angle was still too flat to capture the desired perspectives.

The solution – Glide Gear OH100
After a long search, I found the Glide Gear OH100, a special video platform for overhead recordings.
Glide Gear, known for its innovative solutions in film and video technology, offers a wide range of equipment for cameramen and video producers to improve the quality of their recordings.
An outstanding product in their range is the “Glide Gear OH100”, a specially designed overhead camera tripod developed for a variety of shooting scenarios.

Sources of supply and stores
The model is listed on Amazon Germany, but was not available for months in the meantime. According to my research, there was also no authorized dealer within the EU at the time.
So the order had to be placed directly in the USA. Delivery from Amazon-USA would have been possible, but I opted to order directly from Glide Gear.
For $199 plus. 70 $ shipping and 60 EUR in customs and taxes I paid the equivalent of just under EUR 260. A proud, but quite justified price in my opinion.
The order was placed on a Sunday and already on Wednesday the package was there.
As of today, however, the Glide Gear OH100 Overhead Table Top Studio Video Camera Platform is available on Amazon – and at a significantly lower price.

The structure of the Glide Gear OH100
The assembly is very well explained in the enclosed instructions. This is written in English, but the pictures speak for themselves.
The Over Head System is ideal for all top-down camera shots. It doesn’t matter whether I’m filming with my Panasonic GH5, action cam or smartphone. By the way, the matching clamp mount is included for the smartphone.
To hide the background you can install a photo wall. The Glide Gear OH100 offers two angles with one clamp each for this purpose. There the photo wall will be fixed.

I bought an additional quick release plate. This is permanently attached to the Over Head platform. This way I can quickly mount or dismount my camera without changing the complete setting.
I attached additional arms to the cross brace. This is no problem due to the prefabricated ¼-20 screw holes. My LED headlights are then attached to the arms.

In my search for an efficient solution for overhead shots in my video production, I came across the Glide Gear OH100, a specially developed overhead camera tripod.
This Glide Gear product has proven to be indispensable in significantly improving the quality of my shots.
The OH100 offers a robust design and high adaptability, which enables the camera to be positioned stably above the object and thus ensure precise image quality.
Previously, I had used conventional tripods, but they were often in the way and their positioning restricted my freedom of movement and led to annoying wobbles.
