Installing a split air conditioning system in the basement: Heating & dehumidifying in an old building (DIY guide)

In this project, I show how I heat and simultaneously dehumidify my damp cellar (built in 1900) with a split air conditioning system. The aim is to permanently reduce humidity and prevent mold growth.

I document the complete installation of the air conditioning system step by step – from the installation of the indoor unit and the wall breakthrough to the connection of the outdoor unit, the refrigerant lines (Quick-Connect) and the power supply. I also integrate a Shelly 1PM to monitor the power consumption.

The article shows whether a split air conditioning system can be a sensible alternative to conventional heating or a dehumidifier in the basement – especially in old buildings with damp walls and difficult conditions.
