Setting up the camera
- Fully charge the camera: First, I fully charged the camera using the USB charging cable provided.
This usually takes about 4 hours. - Download the Reolink app: Next, I installed the Reolink app, which is available for free for iOS and Android, on my smartphone.
- Establish a Bluetooth connection: I then activated Bluetooth on my smartphone and opened the Reolink app.
The app automatically searched for new devices. - Initial configuration: I followed the instructions in the app to configure the camera.
This included connecting the camera to my Wi-Fi network.
I simply selected the desired network and entered the password. - Positioning the camera: Finally, I chose an optimal installation location for the camera.

Optimal installation location
The installation location plays a decisive role in the effectiveness of the monitoring.
Here are some tips for optimal placement:
- Height: I installed the camera at a height of 2.5 to 3 meters.
This prevents the camera from being easily manipulated and also provides a good overview. - Wi-Fi signal: I made sure that the installation location was within range of my Wi-Fi router.
A strong signal is crucial for the stable transmission of video data. - Weather conditions: Although the Reolink Argus 4 Pro is weatherproof (IP66), I mounted the camera under a small roof overhang to protect it from extreme weather conditions.
- Sun exposure: Since I use the solar panel, I installed it in a place with direct sunlight to maximize the battery life.
Mounting the camera
- Fixing the bracket: First, I used the screws and plugs supplied to fix the bracket in the desired position.
I made sure that the bracket was firmly in place. - Attach the camera to the bracket: I then placed the camera in the mount and set the desired angle.
- Mounting the solar panel: As I am using the solar panel, I mounted it near the camera and aligned it so that it catches as much sunlight as possible.
I then connected the panel to the camera.

Menu items and settings of the Reolink Argus 4 Pro
In the Reolink app, I found a variety of menu items and setting options that help me to optimally customize the Reolink Argus 4 Pro to my needs.
Here are the most important menu items and the respective options that I can configure:
1. live view In the live view, I can view the current image from the camera in real time.
I can also take snapshots or start and stop video recordings manually.
I find the 2-way audio function particularly practical, which allows me to talk to people on site via the camera.
2. playback In the playback menu, I can view all recorded videos stored on the SD card or in the Reolink Cloud.
I have the option to download videos and filter by date and time to quickly find specific recordings.
3. event management The event list shows me all events that have been recorded by the camera, such as movements or alarms.
Here I can also configure whether I want to receive push notifications on my smartphone for certain events.
4. device settings In the device settings, I can configure the network, adjust the image quality and change the night vision settings.
Particularly important for me are the motion detection and the PIR sensor, where I can set the sensitivity and zones to reduce false alarms.
5. alarm settings In the alarm settings menu, I can set an alarm schedule to determine when the camera should detect motion and send alarms.
I have various alarm methods to choose from, such as push notifications, e-mail or a siren.
I can also set the alarm sound and volume here.
6. recording settings Here I can select the recording mode, whether the camera should record continuously or only record when motion is detected.
I also have the option to specify the storage location, whether the recordings should be saved on the SD card, in the Reolink Cloud or both.
Memory management helps me to manage storage space by automatically deleting older recordings when storage space is low.
7. power management In the power management menu, I can see the current battery charge level and configure the use of the solar panel or other power sources.
The energy-saving mode allows me to maximize the battery life by reducing the frame rate or adjusting the motion detection.
8. device information Here I can check and install firmware updates, change the name of the camera and enter the installation location to better manage multiple cameras.
