Scope of delivery and first impressions
The Reolink TrackMix PoE comes in robust packaging and includes the camera itself as well as all the necessary mounting accessories.
The camera is quite large and weighs around 1-2 kg, which requires stable mounting.
It can be mounted both on the wall and on the ceiling.
In addition to the camera, a network cable, a waterproof cable connection and detailed operating instructions are included.
Simple installation thanks to PoE
A particular highlight of the Reolink TrackMix PoE is the support of Power over Ethernet (PoE).
This means that the camera is powered via the network cable, eliminating the need for a separate power cable.
This makes installation much easier, especially outdoors.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology that makes it possible to transmit both data and electrical power via a single Ethernet cable.
This technology is particularly useful for the installation of devices such as IP cameras, wireless access points and VoIP telephones, as it eliminates the need for a separate power cable and therefore greatly simplifies the installation.
1. how it works: PoE utilizes standard Ethernet cables (Cat 5e, Cat 6 and above) to transmit electrical power and data simultaneously.
This is achieved by using PoE-capable switches or special PoE injectors that feed the power into the Ethernet cable.

- PoE switch: A network switch that supports PoE can supply data and power via the same cable.

Switching between wide-angle and zoom view is seamless.
Special functions of the TrackMix PoE
2-way audio and tracking function The camera is equipped with a microphone and a loudspeaker, which enables 2-way communication.
The tracking function is particularly noteworthy.
The camera can automatically follow objects that it recognizes and pan and tilt in the process.
This function can be activated via the settings in the client or in the app and offers various modes, such as digital tracking or pan/tilt tracking.
Detailed setting options Numerous setting options are available in the Reolink TrackMix PoE menu.
For example, the bit rate can be increased, motion detection adjusted and the tracking function configured.
The option to define preset points and have the camera automatically return to these points is particularly useful.
Test shots and practical experience
Day and night shots
The Reolink TrackMix PoE impresses with both day and night shots.
The image quality is excellent thanks to the 4K resolution and enables clear recordings to be made even in poor lighting conditions.
The night vision function works reliably and offers a good range of vision.
Whether during the day or in the dark, the camera always delivers razor-sharp images, ensuring reliable surveillance around the clock.
Tracking in the test
In my tests, the camera’s tracking function worked perfectly.
People and animals were reliably recognized and tracked.
The camera follows the objects smoothly and does not lose sight of them even during fast movements.
The three different tracking modes, which I tested extensively, are particularly impressive:
- Digital tracking: In this mode, the camera uses digital magnification to keep an object in view.
This mode is particularly helpful when only a small amount of movement needs to be captured in the image. - Pan/tilt tracking: The camera physically pans and tilts to keep the object in the frame.
This function is ideal for tracking larger movements and objects. - Combined tracking: This mode combines digital tracking with pan/tilt movements.
This allows the camera to first digitally zoom in on the object and then physically follow it in order to always keep it in focus.
These flexible tracking options ensure that the camera guarantees the best possible tracking in every situation.
Operation via app
The Reolink app makes it easy to control the camera.
The ability to see both lens views simultaneously on the screen and operate the camera via PTZ control (pan/tilt/zoom) is particularly practical.
The app works reliably both in the home WLAN and on the move.

Even if some functions are different or additional, the basic function is always the same.

2-way audio and communication
One of the outstanding features of the Reolink TrackMix PoE is the 2-way audio communication.
This feature allows me to communicate in real time via the camera’s built-in microphone and speaker.
Be it to warn uninvited guests or simply to talk to someone in front of the camera, the 2-way audio function offers a wide range of applications.
Technically speaking, the camera has a built-in microphone and speaker.
In my tests, however, the sound was a little tinny and bright, and the volume was too low.
The microphone picked up distant noises, such as my budgies, audibly, but my voice was very quiet when I was standing right in front of it.

Powerful PTZ tracking
The Reolink TrackMix PoE offers an impressive PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) function which, combined with automatic tracking, provides an unbeatable surveillance experience.
The camera can move in all directions and automatically track objects it detects.
This function is particularly useful for closely monitoring movements on the property and detecting potential security risks at an early stage. The camera offers three different tracking modes:
- Digital tracking: The camera uses digital magnification to keep an object in view.
This is ideal for tracking small or slow-moving objects. - Pan/tilt tracking: In this mode, the camera physically pans and tilts to keep the object in the frame.
Perfect for larger movements and fast-moving objects. - Combined tracking: This function combines digital tracking with physical movement so that the camera first zooms in on the object digitally and then follows it physically to keep it in focus at all times.
I use combined tracking because, in my opinion, it delivers the best results and the tracked objects are followed safely and reliably.
Important aspects of the PTZ tracking function:
- Automatic tracking of people and animals
- 360-degree swivel and tilt movements
- Seamless change between wide-angle and zoom view
Simple integration into the network
The Reolink TrackMix PoE was easy to integrate into my existing network.
Thanks to PoE support, it only needed one network cable for power supply and data transmission.
This significantly reduced the installation effort and made setup simple and straightforward, even for less tech-savvy users.
However, there is also a WLAN version, the TrackMix WiFi, which only requires a power source at the installation site.
Additional functions and settings
Motion detection and alarm functions
The Reolink TrackMix PoE offers extensive motion detection and alarm settings.
I was able to adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection and define specific areas where motion should be detected.
In intelligent mode, the camera can distinguish between different objects (human, animal, car, other).
The recording and subsequent playback can be individually programmed for the different objects using a filter.
In high resolution, it is also possible to automatically mark the detected or alarm-triggering object with a frame.
In this way, I was able to easily recognize which object triggered the alarm.
Non-recognition zone
This function allows me to exclude certain areas in the camera’s field of view so that movements in these zones do not trigger alarms.
This is particularly useful to avoid false alarms caused by moving trees or passing cars.
Privacy mask
With the privacy mask, I can cover certain areas in the camera’s field of view so that these areas are not recorded. This function is ideal for protecting the privacy of neighbors or covering areas that should not be monitored.
In Germany, the use of a privacy mask is necessary in order to comply with the legal requirements of data protection and personal rights.
It is important that private areas and third-party properties are not monitored in order to avoid legal consequences.
The difference to the non-detection zone is that the privacy mask completely excludes certain areas from recording, while the non-detection zone only ensures that movements in these areas do not trigger alarms.
Both functions worked perfectly in my tests.

Storage options and backup solutions
The Reolink TrackMix PoE offers flexible storage options.
I can either store the recordings on a microSD card directly in the camera or save them on a network video recorder (NVR).
An NVR, such as the Reolink RLN36 I use, offers extensive advantages: It stores video recordings centrally and makes it easy to manage and archive large amounts of video data.
An NVR (Network Video Recorder) enables the central storage and management of video recordings. In addition to the SD card in each camera, I use a Reolink RLN36 for the video recordings.
This provides me with a double backup system so that my recordings are secured even if one system fails.

Installing and mounting the Reolink TrackMix PoE
Step-by-step installation guide
Installing the Reolink TrackMix PoE was simple and straightforward.
Here is a detailed step-by-step guide that ensured I was able to get the camera up and running quickly and correctly:
Preparing the camera
- I unpacked the camera and the accessories.
- I checked that all the necessary parts were present: Camera, network cable, waterproof cable connection, mounting brackets, screws and operating instructions.
- In my experience, it was better to install the SD card in the camera before mounting it.
It was also advisable to first set up the camera on the client and in the app before mounting.

Mounting the bracket
- I have attached the camera to a camera dome.
- Alternatively, the camera can also be mounted on the ceiling or wall.
The holes for the screws can be marked using the drilling template provided.
Connecting the cables
- I connected the network cable from my PoE switch to the LAN port of the camera inside the camera dome.
- If no dome is used, the supplied cable connection should be used to establish a watertight connection.
Fine adjustments and calibration
- I positioned the camera so that the desired area was covered.
With the help of the live image on my phone, this was no problem. - I performed a calibration to make sure the camera was moving correctly and tracking objects.
Tips for optimal placement
The correct positioning of the camera was crucial for optimum monitoring.
At my test station, the camera already had an optimal position.
Here are some tips for the best position of the Reolink TrackMix PoE:
- Height and viewing angle: The camera should be mounted at a height of 2.5 to 3 meters in order to obtain a good overview and at the same time be able to see details.
- Lighting: Ensure that the camera is not looking directly into bright light sources such as streetlights or reflective surfaces to avoid overexposure.
- Protection from the weather: Although the camera is weatherproof, it should be installed in a sheltered location where possible to prolong its life.
- Avoid obstacles: Make sure that no trees, branches or other objects block the camera’s field of view.

The Reolink TrackMix PoE is an advanced surveillance camera that enables both wide-angle and zoom shots thanks to its dual-lens technology.
Another highlight is the automatic tracking function, which reliably tracks people and animals.
Thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE), installation is particularly easy as power supply and data transmission are provided via a single cable.
The camera can be mounted both on the wall and on the ceiling.
In my tests, the Reolink TrackMix PoE impressed with its excellent image quality in day and night shots.
The flexible PTZ function (pan, tilt, zoom) and the three different tracking modes – digital tracking, pan/tilt tracking and combined tracking – ensure optimum surveillance in any situation.
The 2-way audio function is also remarkable.
In my tests, however, the audio sounded a little tinny and bright, and the volume was too low.
The microphone picked up distant noises well, but my speech when I was standing right in front of it was very quiet.
The camera can be controlled via the Reolink app, which is available for Android and iOS, as well as the Reolink client on the PC.
In my opinion, the latter offers clearer and more practical operation.
Both programs work very well and make it easy to manage and configure the camera.
The Reolink TrackMix PoE can use either a microSD card or a network video recorder (NVR) to store recordings.
The camera supports a variety of intelligent functions such as motion detection, alarm notifications and the creation of detection zones and privacy masks.
