However, there is another, previously unrenovated cellar beneath the basement. This was used in the past as a vegetable cellar and air raid shelter. The climate is therefore cool and humid.<\/p><div id=\"comma-3309191196\" class=\"comma-inhalt comma-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3563316148321376\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3563316148321376\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"6867259082\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>Over the years, leaking pipes on the outside have led to major water damage in this area. For years, rainwater from a roof area of more than 100 square meters ran directly into the masonry.<\/p>\n<p>This, of course, had a considerable impact on the building fabric. The steel beams in the basement ceiling are badly rusted and the floor is blown up.<!--more--><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Drying_basement_%E2%80%93_false_ceiling_must_be_renovated\"><\/span>Drying basement &#8211; false ceiling must be renovated<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In order to make the room usable in the future, the entire area had to be drained. I had already repaired the downpipes and uncovered the walls of the upper cellar on the outside. In addition, the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/commaik.de\/2014\/09\/trockenlegung-des-hauses-einbringen-von-drainage-und-wasserrohren\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plinth area was drained with a drainage system.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the lower cellar extends to a depth of six meters below ground, it was not possible for me to expose the plinth in this area from the outside. The risk of the foundation walls collapsing was simply too great.<\/p>\n<p>So I had to work from the inside. I have described my experiences with the installation of a retrofitted horizontal barrier and the creation of a pump sump in the article <a href=\"https:\/\/commaik.de\/2021\/12\/keller-trockenlegen-1-jahr-spaeter-injektion-pumpensumpf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Draining the basement &#8211; 1 year later<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The basement ceiling with its rusted steel beams also required renovation. To do this, the old basement ceiling had to be removed and completely rebuilt. This all had to be done laboriously by hand, as there was no access for heavy equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The intermediate ceiling between the steel girders was filled with concrete screed. Reinforcement provided additional stability.
