I want to present the components and tools I use in my films in a clearly visible way. Of course, the work processes should also be shown optimally for the viewer.

The Glide Gear OH100 offers the perfect solution for this. Thanks to its stable construction and flexible adjustment options, it allows me to position the camera exactly where it is needed. This allows me to ensure that every step of the process is clearly visible.

In this article, I present the overhead platform in more detail.

Why a tripod is not enough

In my previous way of working, I had always mounted my camera on a tripod and positioned it directly in front of my workbench. This method allowed me to closely monitor what I was filming and adjust settings on the camera if necessary.

Unfortunately, this arrangement proved to be impractical, as both the camera and the tripod were often in the way.

The limited freedom of movement was a constant problem, and it was not uncommon for me to accidentally bump into the tripod, resulting in unwanted wobbles in the video.

To overcome this challenge, I invested in another tripod, this time one with a horizontal boom. This allowed me to set up the tripod a little further away from my position, which allowed the camera to film from a better perspective.

Nevertheless, this solution was not ideal either. Due to the weight of the camera on the boom, I had to add weight to the tripod, which affected the stability.

In addition, I still couldn’t film my workbench directly from above. The shooting angle was still too flat to capture the desired perspectives.

K&F Concept 186cm Aluminium Stativ, Kamera Stativ mit 90 Grad Mittelsäulen, Kompaktes Fotostativ mit Einbeinsativ-Funktion, Tripod mit 360 Grad Kugelkopf T255A3(S211)*

by Shenzhen Zhuoer Photograph

These arms allow the user to position the camera at different angles and heights, which is particularly useful for achieving dynamic shots from different perspectives.

Mounting plates and adapters: Various mounting plates and adapters extend the compatibility of the OH100 with different camera models and accessories. This makes the overhead stand even more universally applicable and can be easily adapted to specific requirements.

LED lights: Good lighting is crucial for high-quality video recordings. LED lights, which can be mounted on the frame of the OH100, ensure uniform and controllable illumination of the recording area.

Remote controls for cameras: Remote controls are a useful additional product for conveniently controlling camera settings from a distance. They allow the user to adjust focus, zoom and other settings without having to touch the tripod or camera directly.

Carrying bags: For users who transport their equipment frequently, specially designed carrying bags offer a practical solution for safe and convenient transportation of the OH100 and its accessories.

I bought an additional quick release plate. This is permanently attached to the Over Head platform. This way I can quickly mount or dismount my camera without changing the complete setting.

I attached additional arms to the cross brace. It makes it possible to position cameras stably above an object to create high-quality top-down shots for tutorials, product demonstrations and workshop videos.

2 Why is a conventional tripod not sufficient for overhead shots?
Conventional tripods can get in the way, restrict freedom of movement and cause wobbling if accidentally touched. In addition, they do not allow a perfect top-down shooting angle, which is important for detailed work shots.

3. which camera types are compatible with the Glide Gear OH100?
The platform is compatible with various camera types, including DSLRs, action cams and smartphones. A suitable clamp mount for smartphones is included, and the platform offers several 1/4-20 attachment points for accessories.

4. how high and wide is the Glide Gear OH100?
The Glide Gear OH100 is approx. 69 cm high and 86 cm wide. It is made of aluminum and steel, which gives it a stable and robust design.

5. can I use the Glide Gear OH100 for recordings in different locations?
Yes, the Glide Gear OH100 is lightweight and easy to transport, allowing you to move quickly between different shooting locations. It weighs only around 3.6 kg and can therefore be used flexibly.

6 Where can I buy the Glide Gear OH100?
The platform is usually available from online retailers such as Amazon. Alternatively, it can also be ordered directly from the manufacturer Glide Gear in the USA. Sometimes additional customs and shipping costs must be taken into account.

7. which additional products are useful for using the Glide Gear OH100?
Additional accessories such as flexible camera arms, LED lights for even illumination, quick-release plates for easy camera changes and remote controls for controlling the camera settings can extend the functionality of the platform.

8. how is the Glide Gear OH100 assembled?
Assembly is simple and well explained in the enclosed instructions. The platform is assembled by connecting the aluminum and steel elements and attaching the rubber soles to the feet. The instructions contain detailed illustrations.

9. is the Glide Gear OH100 also suitable for heavy cameras?
Yes, the platform has a maximum load capacity of about 10 lbs (4.5 kg), which makes it suitable for most cameras, including larger DSLRs.

10. what problems does the Glide Gear OH100 solve compared to conventional solutions?
The Glide Gear OH100 offers a stable and wobble-free solution for overhead shots, improves freedom of movement and enables more precise shooting angles. It thus solves the challenges of limited stability and unfavorable camera angles with conventional tripods.

Glide Gear OH100 Overhead Table Top Studio Video Kamera Plattform*

by Glide Gear
